This South Ceredigion Cup clash between the two teams at the top of Division 2 and 3 respectively was completely dominated by the visitors despite missing a third of their first team squad. Those players who stepped up from the Reserves soon showed their mettle in ensuring a passage to the next round of the competition. Within minutes of the start Llewelyn Jones waltzed past his marker and from a narrow angle squeezed the ball into the net, and five minutes later it was two nil when Jones again found himself unmarked on the far post to prod the ball into the net. The homesters did pose some threats and stand in keeper ap Neill did well to parry a powerful goalbound shot to safety, and put his body in the way of another good effort from a corner. At the other end the alarm bells were ringing regularly as midfielders Adam Morgan and Steve Furness created space for dangerous strikers Jones and Dag. The third goal was soon on the scoresheet with Furness notching his first Division 2 goal of the season. With the game virtually parked in the Maesglas end it was only a matter of time before the home keeper was picking the ball from the back of the net and it came some ten minutes later when Dag volleyed an unstoppable shot into the net from a corner. By now the homesters desperate tackling was resulting in a number of free kicks and the young home keeper did well on a number of occasions to keep the scoreline within reasonable limits, but saving Dag's penalty was an expectation too far as the visitors cruised to a five nil half time lead.
The start of the second half was a replication of the first with visiting central defenders Turner and Robinson dealing comfortably with the sporadic attacks from a desperate home team who have totted up a prolific goalscoring record so far this year at the top of the third division. With a quarter of an hour gone the visitors introduced their first substitution with teenager Ben Davies coming on to replace Rogers on the left and he was soon in the thick of things going close on a couple of occasions. Paul Farrelly and Tom Davies then completed the substitutions but the dominance of the visitors remained undiminished and it was a mixture of good goalkeeping and luck which kept the score at five-nil to the end.
Overall, a very good performance on a difficult playing surface with the younger members of the reserve team showing good potential against a free-scoring outfit who were no match for the flowing style of football on show by the visitors.
