Saturday 2nd April 2011

It was a five star performance from striker Memo Dag which secured the points for the visitors in this Division 2 contest whilst at the same time scoring all five goals himself. Rangers started well playing some constructive football and virtually spending most of the time in the Lampeter half of the field , creating good half chances but finding it difficult to put the ball in the net. With some twenty five minutes gone they at last got their break when Dag was bundled off the ball in the penalty area and he himself made no mistake from the spot kick. For the rest of the half the game evened out and young Dawid in the Rangers goal was tested on two or three occasions from corners or high crosses.Turning around at half time Lampeter could sense an upset on the cards but their purple patch came and went in the first ten or fifteen minutes of the game. This was a critical part of the game where the visitors were expected to dominate but some outstanding defensive work by the Lampeter central defenders kept Bargod at bay. Dawid was again called into action halfway through saving well from a powerfull header from a Lampeter forward and the nervousness crept in again as the Lampeter defence dealt comfortably with everything that was thrown at them The game was crying out for a little more composure and variety from the Bargod frontline which really didn't surface until the last fifteen minutes or so when Dag himself decided to attack the Lampeter back four on the ground rather than pumping high balls into the area. That tactical change paid dividends as he added, in quick succession, four more goals to his personal tally to grab the points and his first ever quintet of goals in a competative game. Man of the match Memo Dag with Owain Thomas running a close second. With two difficult game coming up against first division opposition manager Cefin Edwards emphasised the need to maintain high fitness levels and to work on competing for second balls and closing down opponents if we are to put up a creditable performance against better quality opposition.

Message From The Chairman April 2011
21 May 2011

It is now the middle of April, and how wonderful it is to see this successful season continuing. Not only are the first team sitting proudly on top of the division, but we are also in the semi final of the League Cup. On Saturday 16th April will be the club’s biggest and most important game for many years, when we play against Pencader. The team also recently played Cardigan Town who are at the top of the first division in the quarter final of the Ceredigion Cup losing 2 – 1 in the 89th minute to a dubious penalty. If we go up we’ll have nothing to fear. The reserve side have also secured their place in the top 4 playoffs – let’s see if we can turn the table on Llanybydder.
The club continues to run successful junior sides, and it is really pleasing to see that three or four 16/17 year olds are vying for first team places. The Youth Team secured a place in the Semi Final of the Youth Cup by beating Newcastle Emlyn by 2 goals to 1 “ Da Iawn Bois”. Yes there are certainly some tough games ahead, but come what may, it’s a great position to be in.
It costs over £2000 per annum to run this club, and although we receive donations and sponsorship from individuals and local businesses, we still have to raise money from other sources. We have this season increased the 100 club to the 120 club, which brings in a further £200. During May, the senior players are doing a sponsored bike ride, and this will coincide with a fun day for the juniors. Anyone wishing to donate their time and/or anything else is very welcome..
We are looking forward to a great end to the season, and the possibility of silverware – bur whatever happens, its been a successful season.
Ymlaen a ni!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bay Cup Quarter Final Special
21 May 2011

Bargod Rangers youth took a step nearer to silverware by brushing aside ten man Aberaeron in the semi final of the youth cup but will surely face much stiffer opposition in the final against St. Dogmaels youth. The game started well for the visitors when central midfielder Mathew Leonard unleashed a piledriver from thirty yards which the Aberaeron keeper could only help in to the net. At that point in the game Bargod were well on top and increased their lead some fifteen minutes later when Tom Rogers had a clear run to goal and prodded the ball under the advancing keeper to make it two nil. Minutes later the visitors went three up when a high ball into the penalty area was headed home by Steffan Evans. That third goal should have seen off Aberaeron but Dawid in the Rangers goal was soon in action making two very good saves to keep a clean sheet, and it didn't finish there as he was again in action chasing down a 50/50 ball which the Aberaeron forward made a meal of in an attempt to influence the referee. The decision of the referee was to produce a red card which was totally unjustified and which resulted in forced adjustments to the visitors line up with Daniel Jones taking over between the sticks. Indeed for the remainder of the half the stand in keeper dealt with all that was thrown at him conceding nothing in the danger area. The second half virtually replicated the last twenty minutes of the first with the game being played out in midfield with the occasional forage into the danger areas but with the visitors sitting back, comfortable with their three goal cushion, there always lurked the danger that the home side could get on the scoresheet and that is exactly what they did with a curling shot which left Jones in the visitors goal grasping thin air . With Aberaeron's spirit temporarily lifted they looked more dangerous and found a number of gaps in the Bargod defence which they could have converted into goals with slightly better finishing .Rangers too had their chances in this period but sloppy finishing left the scoresheet at three goals to one which in the end was enough to take the visitors to their final encounter with St Dogmaels at Ffostrasol on Monday 9th May 2011
